The Auto Sector scaled new heights, breaking records and launching new products in India and overseas. The Mahindra Bolero became the first brand in the SUV/UV/MPV category to cross 50,000 units in one year (2007-08), making it India’s leading SUV brand for three years in a row.
The iconic Mahindra Scorpio gained new fans in Chile, Peru, Brazil and Turkey, while in India, several new versions of the brand were launched. These included the Scorpio Automatic and the New Mighty, Muscular Scorpio. In October, Mahindra launched the path-breaking and eco-friendly FuelSmart system with Micro-Hybrid technology for the Scorpio M2DI and Bolero SLX BS3 variants in the Indian market.
The ergonomically designed Alfa Passenger three wheeler made its debut in Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Jaipur, while Mahindra Renault launched the special Limited Edition Logan Edge in an all new exciting colour – Mystique Purple. Bollywood actor, Kunal Kapoor did the honours at a glittering function in New Delhi.
The year ended on a spectacular note for the sector with the launch of the eagerly awaited Mahindra XYLO, India’s first ‘sedan plus’ offering. Perhaps the most complete car with luxury comforts to enter the Indian market, the XYLO has been a runaway success with bookings crossing the 15,000 mark since its launch on January 13, 2009.
