Ravi joined the Board of Directors in 1997.  Since 2005, he has been a Senior Partner at the legal firm Khaitan & Co, Mumbai. 

 

Ravi received his B.S. from Ramnarain Ruia College, University of Mumbai and his LL.B. from the University of Law, where he also received the Sir Charles Sergeant Memorial Award.  He earned his LL.M from the University of Mumbai with a specialization in International Law and Constitutional and Administrative Law. He passed the Articled Clerks’ examination conducted by the Incorporated Law Society, Mumbai, with the highest marks in Company Law and Taxation.

 

With an experience of over 35 years in legal practice, Ravi began his career with the leading Mumbai law firm Little & Co and rapidly rose to Partner.  He pioneered the firm’s entry into indirect taxation, capital markets, and infrastructure and project finance. He joined Khaitan & Co in 2005, where he led the company’s growth from 30 lawyers to 120 in a period of five years. Today, Khaitan & Co is widely recognized as one of India’s top five law firms and enjoys many awards and recognitions. 

 

Over the years, Ravi has participated in a number of key conferences on both domestic and international business law.  He is a member of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa and the Bombay Incorporated Law Society. He is a member of both the faculty and the Advisory Committee for the Security Law course offered by the Government Law College, Mumbai.

 

His hefty contributions to business law have earned Ravi several awards and recognitions. In 2008 and 2009, he was recognized as a Leading Lawyer in Banking in AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers’ directory of the top corporate and commercial lawyers in the Asia-Pacific region, and in 2010 he was recognized as a Leading Lawyer in Capital Markets. He has also been nominated for an array of other accolades including the Legal 500 for Capital Markets, the Chambers & Partners award for Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Markets practice, and the International Who’s Who of Project Finance Lawyers, among others.

 

In his spare time, Ravi enjoys reading up on history, geography, and current affairs and listening to Indian classical music and jazz.  He also follows avante garde and experimental theatre in Hindi and Marathi and enjoys avante garde and non-commercial cinema.  He is currently a member of Prabhat Chitra Mandal, a Mumbai film society.

 

He lives in Mumbai with his wife.  They have a daughter and a son.
