June 29, 2012, New Delhi: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), India’s leading SUV manufacturer, today announced the launch of the CNG variant of its successful next generation mini truck, the Maxximo. Developed to cater to the evolving needs of transporters, captive segment buyers and corporate segment buyers, the Maxximo CNG promises to keep its owner ahead of others due to a better value proposition.

Launched at a price of Rs. 3.99 Lac (Ex-showroom, BSIV, Delhi), the Maxximo CNG’s 25.6 HP (18.4 Kw) engine gives a mileage of 19 km/litre on an average. This along with a low maintenance cost means that Maxximo CNG’s operating cost / km / ton is significantly lower than its nearest competitor. And all of this, in car-like comfort & safety.

Speaking at the launch, Vivek Nayer, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said “Mahindra is committed towards sustainable mobility & the environment and the launch of the Maxximo CNG BSIV is one more step in that direction. At the same time, Maxximo CNG delivers a better value proposition to its owners and drivers which results in enhanced earnings for them”.

Commenting on the opportunity that the market holds for CNG-powered commercial vehicles, Mr. Nayer added “Delhi NCR has benefitted greatly from a policy-thrust that leverages the potential of inexpensive & clean fuels like CNG. Also, businesses that operate on the hub and spoke model consider vehicles like Maxximo CNG ideal for the last mile transportation of goods. With the widest range of CNG-powered small commercial vehicles In India, Mahindra is best-poised to deliver efficient and environment-friendly solutions for a variety of cargo transportation needs”.

Mahindra Maxximo’s Journey So Far

The Maxximo, Mahindra’s 0.85 ton capacity mini-truck, was unveiled at the 10th Auto Expo held in New Delhi in January 2010. It was the first product to roll out from Mahindra’s state-of-art Chakan plant.

Powered by the World’s first 2-cylinder C2 CRDe engine, the Maxximo mini-truck scores highly over its nearest competitors in terms of technology, comfort, style and safety. This is clearly substantiated by studies done by leading market-research agencies, IMRB and TNS, which show that mini-truck owners rank the Maxximo as No. 1 on the parameters of “advanced”, “powerful” and “car-like”.

Apart from the mini-truck offering, the Maxximo platform has seen the launch of the successful Maxximo Mini Van in April 2011. The mini-van has found huge favour with customers in the stage-carriage segment as well as the entry level contract carriage segment.

What Makes Mahindra Maxximo CNG BSIV Special

More Earnings

The Maxximo CNG is powered by an advanced 4-Stroke Spark Ignition engine that delivers class-leading power of 25.6 HP (18.4 Kw) and torque of 57 Nm (5.8 Kgm). This ensures superior pick-up, acceleration and gradeability, allowing the Maxximo CNG to carry heavy loads even up the steepest of slopes.

Equipped with gas cylinders of 80 litre capacity (combined, equivalent of water) and a best-in-class mileage of 19 Kmpl, the Maxximo CNG allows its operator to transport goods to up to 270 Km on full tanks. This increases the geographic scope of his business, thus increasing his earnings.

A large loading area of 35 sq. ft (3.2 sq. mt.) and 750 kg of rated payload allows the owner to carry more load in a single trip. His earnings are further enhanced with stiffer 7-leaf rear suspension, a stronger cargo body and thicker (3.6 mm) wheel rims.

More Comfort

Addressing the demands of driver & owner alike, the Maxximo CNG comes with bigger, more comfortable seats with better support and head rests that make the journey more pleasant especially over long distances. A bench seat for the co-driver, with no obstruction between his seat and the driver’s seat allows the latter to lie down across the seats, adding to the comfort factor. A cable-operated gear shift, as opposed to the regular, rod-operated gear shift found in other mini trucks, provides a smoother, car-like shift-quality involving less effort.

A footstep for the cargo body, windshield wipers with intermittent function, an inbuilt spray system and a 12 Volt charging facility add to the overall convenience.

More Safety

The Maxximo CNG is the safest vehicle in its class with a frontal crash protector, which allows it to meet stringent frontal crash impact norms (AIS 029, for N1 category of vehicles). In a first for the segment, the Maxximo CNG features booster-assisted brakes with a Load Sensing Proportioning Valve which ensure greater control while braking and reduces pedal-effort for a more fatigue-free drive. A cut-off switch ensures that the engine cannot be cranked while refueling and the fire extinguisher is conveniently placed for quick access during an emergency. With only 7 joints in the gas-piping system, the chances of gas-leakage are fewer, making the Maxximo CNG safer.

More Style

Given that the modern mini-truck buyer sees his vehicle as an extension of his personality, the Maxximo CNG has been designed to allow its owner to express his sense of style. It sports futuristic clear-lens wraparound headlamps with multi-focal reflectors, as compared to the simple, round headlamps found on its nearest competitor. This also provides the driver with greater visibility at night. The accent on style extends to the interiors with a well-designed instrument panel with integrated glove box and a stylish cluster with a digital clock and trip meter. The vehicle also features beige and tan dual-tone interiors, similar to those found in cars.
