New Delhi, December 26, 2013: To recognize and reward excellence in Indian theatre, the Mahindra group is proud to present, The Ninth Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Festival & Awards (META). Entries for META 2014 are invited for original and adapted plays, in any language, staged between January 21, 2013 and January 19, 2014 in India.
Encouraging all forms of theatrical productions across its full spectrum, the Mahindra Group, through META, aims to increase awareness and appreciation of Indian theatre, making it the primary national platform for recognizing and rewarding the best of theatre. It provides a platform to celebrate and promote theatre’s varied elements including playwriting, set design, costume and light design, movement, direction and performance.
Instituted by the Mahindra Group, in continuation of its commitment to promoting the arts, META 2014 aims at bringing together the best of Indian theatre from 2013. The awards consist of a specially designed trophy and a cheque of Rs.1, 00,000 for the Best Production, Rs.75, 000 for Best Original Playwright and Rs. 45,000 for all other award categories, including – best actor in leading role (Male/Female), best supporting actor (Male/Female), best stage design, best lighting director, best innovative sound design, best costume design, best original script, best ensemble and best choreography.

They do it regardless of the material returns or fame and prestige that might or might not come their way. Entries for META 2014 may also include theatre productions with a cast of one or more actors, including physical theatre, puppetry, multi-media and dance. The submissions must be sent in the form of recorded DVDs and in any language by the theatre production houses. In case any one of them is unable to afford the cost of producing the DVD, then META would fund the same on their behalf. The entries for META 2014 close on the 20th of January 2014. All productions that meet the eligibility criteria are reviewed by a selection committee comprising of five eminent theatre personalities. The selection committee picks the 10 best productions after viewing the DVDs of all the plays. The ten nominated productions are invited to perform at the LTG and Kamani Auditorium from March 3, 2014 to March 8, 2014, followed by the awards night which will be hosted on March 9, 2014 at the Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi.
