BEYOND BUSINESS

THE JOY OF SHARING

The Mahindra Group has always been conscious of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The Group-wide belief is that CSR encompasses making socially responsible products, engaging in socially responsible employee relations and making a commitment to the community around us. It is basically about managing our business processes to produce an overall positive impact on society. In this 60th year, M&M plans a thrust on CSR by which it can reach out to more deserving and needy segments of society.

Mahindra and Education

The late Mr. K.C. Mahindra formed the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust in 1953 with the objective of promoting education-related philanthropy. Recognising the potential that education holds for transforming lives for the better, the Mahindra Group has chosen education as its main CSR focus area. However, this does not preclude the Group from involving itself in CSR activities in other areas too.

K.C. Mahindra Education Trust

The K.C. Mahindra Education Trust has undertaken a number of initiatives in the field of education. It promotes education mainly by way of scholarships, with the intention of bringing about social and economic development through a literate, enlightened and empowered populace. It envisions 'transforming the lives of people in India through education and by providing them with financial assistance and recognition across diverse age groups and income strata'.

The Trust has instituted several awards and scholarships - the K.C. Mahindra Scholarship for post-graduate studies abroad, the Mahindra Search for Talent Scholarship to enthuse and reward excellence in academics and the K.C. Mahindra United World College Scholarship. The Mahindra All-India Talent Sponsorship has been set up to help students from lower income group families, to pursue job-oriented diploma courses in recognised polytechnic institutes across the country.

Other awards have been set up in the field of journalism and for academia.
Besides, the Trust has set up the K.C. Mahindra Chair for nuclear chemistry and also supports rehabilitation of the handicapped and the marginalised.
'Nanhi Kali' is a special project of the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust, aimed at providing primary education to underprivileged girl children in India. The Nanhi Kali initiative launched in 1996 works with the conviction that educating a child is the most effective way of breaking the cycle of poverty. In a participatory project, the Trust raises funds from society to sponsor the education of underprivileged girls.
