In
Indian culture, the 60th year is considered to be a
very significant milestone in an individual's life.
It is looked upon almost as a symbolic re-birth. In
fact, the shastras prescribe that a birth and the 60th
year must both be celebrated with exactly the same rituals.
On our 60th Anniversary we are
proud of our long and eventful past. For sixty years,
Mahindra & Mahindra has marched in tune with the
nation's needs.
We have consciously chosen to
go into businesses in areas that would contribute to
India's growth and progress. Whether it is off-road
vehicles or tractors, IT or rural finance, real estate
or auto components, our businesses have served the nation's
requirements and helped to create a better life for
our fellow Indians. It
is a matter of satisfaction that in the course of doing
so, we have also honed our business skills and are celebrating
our 60th year with a record profit of Rs. 500 crores!
In many ways our 60th year is
indeed a re-birth, because it finds us looking at everything
anew, looking at new ways of doing business in a new
world.
Domestically we are learning
to serve the Indian consumer in new ways through well
designed, innovative and value for money products. Externally
we are actively seeking global challenges and leveraging
the Indian advantage of creating high quality products
at a price no one else can match. India looks set to
reach full potential in this century, and Mahindra's
will continue to march in step with India. Continued
success in a changing world is the best form of celebration.
And finally there is one more
aspect to the celebrations. Let us celebrate our 60th
Anniversary by committing ourselves with renewed dedication
to all our core values, especially the value of good
corporate citizenship. As in the past, in the future
too, let us dedicate ourselves to giving something back
to society by making Corporate Social Responsibility
an important focus of our lives, both individually and
as a corporate.
Fuelled both by ambition and
by compassion, let us make the next sixty years even
more glittering than the sixty years that have gone
by.
