KANDIVLI


Kandivli, a suburb of Mumbai, is a cosmopolitan area that is considered to be the most densely populated region in Mumbai. With the real estate boom in the 1980s and 1990s, many residential projects started to shift northward. This saw a frenzied construction activity leading to large scale development. The area has also witnessed the highest appreciation in land value in Mumbai. It is now considered a posh residential location of western suburbs of Mumbai with a number of upmarket constructions and complexes.
 

The Plant

 

The Kandivli plant is devoted to the production of PICK Ups which include Bolero Flat Bed, Maxx, Maxx Maxi Truck and SOFT TOPS which include Commander and CL. One of the oldest plants in M&M, the Kandivli plant was inaugurated on 2nd October 1964. The total area of the plant is 63 acres with a built up area of 26.92 acres. The plant provides employment to 2435 workmen and to 625 engineers - a total of 3060 employees.

Robust machining lines are in place for Engine (Cylinder Block & Head), Transmission (Gears, Shafts and Housings) and Axle (Housings and Gears) along with a highly efficient Heat Treatment Shop, Press Shop and Tool Room. The Paint Shop is equipped with water based dip priming line, a Surfacer Line and Top Coat Line. The Grey Cast Iron Foundry has critical components like Cylinder Head and Cylinder Block. Apart from this, the plant also enjoys the great infrastructure that the city of Mumbai has to offer

The daily production capacity at the plant is about 200 vehicles units, 200 engines units, 540 transmissions units and 1000 axles units.

The Kandivli plant has been recommended for the TPM Excellence Award apart from ISO/TS 16949 certification. The other awards and certifications that the plant enjoys include:

OHSAS 18001 - OHSAS 18000 is an international Occupational Health and Safety management system specification. It comprises two parts, 18001 and 18002 and embraces BS8800 and a number of other publications. OHSAS 18001 was created via a concerted effort from a number of the world's leading national standards bodies, certification bodies, and specialist consultancies. OHSAS helps in a variety of respects from minimizing risks to employees/etc to improving an existing OH&S management system, demonstrate diligence; gain assurance; etc.
