ZAHEERABAD


Zaheerabad is a semi-arid province located in Andhra Pradesh, situated about 136 kms away from Hyderabad. Zaheerabad, associated with a rich cultural heritage and a glorious lineage, is also known for its water shortages. Water is a scarce commodity. Water harvesting is therefore practiced very seriously and all plantations are on drip irrigation. Water is often pumped up through bore wells and open wells. Being a dry region, in summers the temperature climbs up to 45°C.
 

The Plant

 

The Mahindra plant in Zaheerabad is spread across a vast expanse of 343.36 acres with a built-up area of about 16.79 acres. Its employee strength is 641 and a vehicle assembly capacity of 218 vehicles per day. The total area could be categorized in four segments:
A) Plant Area
B) Tech.Colony - Total Area 157 acres
C) Executive Colony & Mahindra Academy - Total Area 42 acres
D) Truck Park Area -144 acres

The products manufactured at this location ranges from UV (Maxx) to 3 Wheelers (Champion Alfa), LCVs and Buses. The manufacturing facilities present at the plant include Body Shop, AED Line, Paint Shop and Assembly Lines

The Development Programme

 

Mahindra & Mahindra had initiated the greening, landscaping and beautification of the estate. In the last 3 years, around 80 acres of land have been refurbished. With approximately 5,000 hybrid mangoes, about 1000 Nagpur oranges and a large quantity of coconut, tamarind, banana, gauva, pomegranate, custard apple, papaya and hybrid teak. Plants ranging from chickoo to mango to medicinal plants, not to mention the future of bio fuels - Jatropha, were cultivated touching 95,000 in number. A nursery was erected using only recycled equipment. Aviaries were established to house a variety of birds and pets.

Other initiatives include a community hall built to seat 800, using a low cost housing concept and obsolete auto components. An auditorium was also constructed for the school, to seat 1000 on the same basis as the community hall. We also installed a small swimming pool through a pre-fabricated process.
