Mahindra & Mahindra-Energy Division

Mahindra & Mahindra is the flagship company of the Mahindra Group. Established in 1945, our core automotive and farm equipment businesses have grown into market leaders whose triple bottom line ethic is driving industry trends towards technological innovation, social responsibility, and constantly improving customer satisfaction.
Over the years, we’ve spun off into new ventures in order to better meet the needs of our customers, expanding into automotive and non-automotive components, information technology, financial services, and energy. We operate in a federated structure so that each business can take risks and grow on its own and simultaneously leverage synergies across the entire Group’s competencies.
We entered the energy sector in 2002 to bring power security to Indian homes and businesses. Our Powerol engines and diesel generator sets (gensets) supply uninterrupted power to areas with unreliable grid electricity. To date, we’ve installed over 150,000 gensets in India and we’re expanding into the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, and Nepal. We are present in countries across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Since we entered the market for power generation in 2002, our business has grown from US $1.2 million to US $225 million.
We manufacture our Powerol inverters, batteries, and gensets at three state-of-the-art factories in Pune, Chennai, and Delhi. Through 160 service points spread across the country, we offer transportation, installation, and commissioning of all gensets no matter how remote the location, 24x7 support to most key markets, and quick sourcing of spare parts. We’ve also set up retail finance for our customers so that Powerol gensets are affordable and accessible to homes and businesses in remote areas that may not have access to financial institutions.
Our energy services include power leasing and telecom infrastructure management. In 2006, we became the market leader in the telecom segment; today our market share has passed 45 percent. And in 2007 we won the Frost and Sullivan “Voice of the Customer” award for best practices in telecom.
Drawing on this strong base of providing creative and reliable energy solutions, we are currently examining opportunities in the green energy sphere through Mahindra Cleantech. We're looking to rapidly scale up to meet India’s growing need for green power solutions.
