Director – Mahindra Institute of Quality

Bishwambhar joined Mahindra in 1999.  He led the transformation of the erstwhile Punjab Tractors Ltd. (PTL), a company acquired by M&M in 2007.  PTL was successfully integrated with M&M to become the Swaraj Division of M&M, under the leadership of Bishwambhar. In his current role, Bishwambhar is the Director of the Mahindra Institute of Quality, an institution dedicated to the skill building of Human Resources in the Mahindra group companies and outside, through training and development.  MIQ is also the custodian of the Mahindra Group’s Business Excellence program called TMW (The Mahindra Way) and strives to intsitutionalise TMW in all the group companies, through assessments and other follow up programs.  He is also the Chairman of the Central Safety Council, an organ of M&M, propagating best practices in the area of safety, health and work environment.


Prior to his current role, Bishwambhar was the Chief Executive of the Tractor and Farm Mechanization business, consisting of the Farm Division’s Tractor business, Swaraj Division and the Construction Equipment Business. He also had the responsibility of overseeing the management of other group companies, namely Swaraj Engines Limited as Vice Chairman, Swaraj Automotive Limited and Mahindra Gujarat Tractor Limited as Director.


Bishwambhar holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur.


He has an impressive 45 years’ experience in the automotive industry.  He began his career with Tata Motors in the 1970s and gained experience with major Indian automotive players like Hindustan Motors and Daewoo Motors. He joined M&M as head of BPR in August 1999. He has held many critical assignments at M&M, including COO of the Farm Equipment Sector and President of M&M’s China business.  He has also served on the boards of MCTCL, a Mahindra JV in China and MUSA, a subsidiary of M&M in USA, engaged in the Tractor business.


Bishwambhar has served on the board of the Governing Council of the PEC University of Technology and was the Chairman of the Manufacturing Committee of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Northern Region.  He is the immediate past President of the Indian Society for Quality and is the current Chairman of the Governing Council of PEC – Centre for Consultancy in Engineering (PEC-CCE), Chandigarh.


Bishwambhar enjoys visiting historical monuments and heritage sites and listening to classical and semi classical music. He also devotes time to social service in education and in aiding micro and small enterprises for business transformation.


He lives in Mumbai with his wife. They have a daughter and a son.
