TRENDWATCH

Fast forward 20 years and every young adult is now an expert web user. Many of them have never lived in a world without the 'net! Moreover, as more and more people gain access to the internet, many through their smart phones, there is an increased need to develop websites that deliver the same "look and feel" across platforms. Content too, has had a makeover – boring old text has now been dethroned by multimedia.

Consequently, web design has firmly established itself as an irreplaceable weapon in a marketer's arsenal. It is one of the most important tools for building a brand. Think about it - A website is, in essence, the gateway into an organisation's soul. It is a way for the world to have access to and experience a company's ethos; in our case - 'Rise'. This was our primary consideration in revamping the Mahindra website into the visual, positioning driven and story-led version you can witness today.

Looking at how far web design has come in the last 20 years, I am very excited to see where we are headed in the next decade. Imagine, an interface where the user talks to the website rather than browse it… where your company is represented on the internet by an avatar who embodies your Brand's personality. For Mahindra, this would be an individual who is energetic, smart, intelligent, curious, youthful and above all else, optimistic. Imagine talking with this individual and having a real conversation with the Brand. We are already seeing glimpses of such technology out there. Apple's Siri and Microsoft's Cortana are some of the prominent examples.

However, in the end, my guess is as good as anyone else's. With progress of technology, there is much to be excited about…and the show has just begun…As technology and our understanding of design evolves, I am sure, we will experience many exciting new developments both in the field of web design, and in life itself. I look forward to them.
