• 11 farmers felicitated at 5th Farmer Felicitation function organized by MASL

January 9 2017, Nashik: Mahindra Agri Solutions Ltd, a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., part of the USD 17.8 billion Mahindra Group, today felicitated 11 farmers for their contribution towards setting high field productivity and quality standards for export oriented grapes. The efforts of these farmers ensure that Mahindra’s products comply with stringent food safety norms of European Union countries and the United Kingdom and add to the good will and brand image of India in foreign nations. The farmers were felicitated by Dr. S.D. Sawant, Director, National Research Centre for Grapes (NRCG) and the senior management team of Mahindra.

About 700 farmers gathered to celebrate their long association with Mahindra Agri Solutions Ltd. and applaud those who have achieved significantly high standards of product quality with high volume of exports to EU destinations.

Dr. S.D. Sawant, Director, National Research Centre for Grapes (ICAR), and chief guest for the function appreciated efforts of MASL. Lauding the efforts, he said “It’s a matter of pride that Indian grape farmers have evolved with time and have embraced new best cultivation practices thereby helping India to become one of the largest grape exporters in the global scenario. Companies such as Mahindra should be applauded for their efforts to realise their vision of Delivering FarmTech Prosperity by constant innovation and farmer engagement programmes.”

According to Vikram Puri, Executive Vice President, MASL, “At MASL, we are working with around 800 farmers in Maharashtra who are dedicated towards improving productivity and quality of grapes and are keen to have various agronomy interventions. Through our flagship ‘Khet se Khaliyan Tak’ (KSKT) agronomy initiative, we’ve helped our farmers increase their productivity by around 36% in the last four years. We will continue to work towards bringing in more market orientation through such value additions and target those opportunities that are financially beneficial for the farmers.”

In the 2016 Grape export season, MASL retained the position of one of the largest Grape exporter from India. MASL exported 842 containers with 11,000 MT. This was possible through continuous efforts by providing technical support to farmers to improve exportable quality and quantity. Farmers played an important role in MASL’s success. To strengthen business connect and improve yield of exportable grapes, MASL started the ‘Khet Se KhaliyanTak’ (KSKT) initiative to monitor application of various chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators as per approved package of practice. This has helped farmers to improve productivity and meet stringent European food safety standards.
