Zachary Tofias of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group visits Mahindra World City, Jaipur

Jaipur, December 7th, 2017: Mahindra World City Jaipur Ltd. (MWC Jaipur), a joint venture between Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited ('MLDL') and Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation ('RIICO'), recently hosted Zachary Tofias, Head of the Urban Planning and Development Initiative and the Climate Positive Development Programme at C40 Cities, a network of global megacities committed to addressing climate change. Mr. Tofias visited MWC Jaipur to review initiatives undertaken as part of the integrated city’s C40 Stage 2 certification, and expressed satisfaction on progress made thus far.

MWC Jaipur is the first project in Asia and the largest project in the world (by population) to receive Stage 2 'Climate Positive Development' certification from C40 Cities. The Climate Positive Development Programme is a performance-based framework designed to create models for how cities can grow in low carbon ways. Stage 2 Climate Positive recognition is conferred on developments that have successfully created detailed plans for reduction in energy, waste and transportation related carbon emissions onsite, and for extending the impact to the surrounding community to achieve a climate positive outcome.

Established in 2006, MWC Jaipur spans ~3000 acres and has been developed as a self-contained integrated city, with co-located industrial and social/residential infrastructure (currently at an advanced stage of planning). MWC Jaipur has established global benchmarks in sustainable urban development, and is focused on holistic growth encompassing local communities and the environment. Water management initiatives implemented at MWC Jaipur include Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) with combined capacity of 6 MLD (million litres per day), treated water for landscaping, and low-flow fixtures and fittings. Other sustainable urban practices taken up include energy-efficient green buildings, LED street lighting, solar PV rooftops, LED retrofitting, e-rickshaws and urban tree plantation drives.

MWC Jaipur is home to more than 75 global and domestic companies, including JCB, Infosys, Ball Corporation, Perto, Metlife, Mahindra & Mahindra, Deutsche Bank, TTK Healthcare Limited and Gaston Engineering, amongst others. The integrated city has created direct employment for more than 8000 persons so far. The City's business zone comprises three operational sector-specific SEZs (IT/ITeS, Engineering & Related Industries and Handicrafts) and a Domestic Tariff Area (DTA). MWC Jaipur is today one of India's leading industrial hubs, contributing to the government’s vision of 'Make in India' by creating opportunities for Manufacturing, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Skill Development.
