Mahindra Electric crossed 10,000 units sales milestone in FY19 and expects to double Electric Vehicle (EV) sales in FY20
As the pioneer of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and related technologies, Mahindra Electric is spearheading a change toward smart and sustainable mobility in the country. With the recent launch of its electric 3-wheelers - the Treo and Treo Yaari in Karnataka, Mahindra Electric products range is now available in 17 states across the country.
Mahesh Babu, CEO Mahindra Electric, said, "Mahindra Treo is India’s first electric three-wheeler to be powered by a lithium-ion battery and comes loaded with many segment-first features. However, the biggest USP of the vehicle is an increase in customers’ savings, thanks to its low-maintenance and running costs. We are committed to offering the best after-sales support through Mahindra’s wide dealer network. With Mahindra Treo, its users will definitely earn more per kilometer when compared to a conventional three-wheeler."
As the demand for shared mobility continues to grow, driven by three mega trends: urbanization, sustainability and the growth of the shared economy, vehicle aggregators are facilitating EV adoption by bringing in economies of scale through bulk procurement and operation of EVs.
Supporting the Indian government's vision of building a viable infrastructure to accelerate speedy induction of even more Electric Vehicles, Mahindra Electric has partnered with EV fleet operator SmartE which will deploy a total of 10,000 Mahindra Electric three-wheelers across India by 2020. Mahindra Electric has also joined hands with Blu Smart, Three Wheels United, and Zoomcar to offer a wide range of vehicles that span personal and commercial segments. In a major push to introduce next-generation sustainable solutions in the shared mobility space, Mahindra has arrayed 50 of its Electric Vehicles, with global on-demand ride-sharing company, Uber, in Hyderabad.
Last year, the Mahindra Group announced Rs 1,000 crore-investment plan over a period of three years to enhance manufacturing capacity of EVs to 75,000 units annually from 15,000 units, besides strengthening its R&D. Shell Lubricants, one of Mahindra’s partners for driving the electric revolution forward, also recently launched a new range of fluids specifically designed to work in EV batteries.
Hemant Sikka, President – CPO, Powerol & Spares Business of Mahindra & Mahindra, said, "Like many other countries, India is currently undergoing a transformation of the electric vehicle industry and at Mahindra, we have been at the forefront of this movement. The launch of Shell e-fluids and e-greases is a necessary step towards strengthening the electric mobility segment by enhancing the performance and lifespan of EVs. We are convinced that such initiatives will help drive forward the future of mobility."
