Bringing Smart Transportation Solutions to India

Reaffirming their belief in the sustainable idea of shared, connected e-mobility, Mahindra and Mahindra invested in Scoot, a US-based company in 2016. The Group is riding on the strength and experience of San Francisco-based Scoot to tackle the problems of pollution and congestion in India with electric kick scooters.

These electric kick-scooters will enable smartphone-activated motor rides for last-mile urban mobility, powered by a battery-driven electric motor that can reach a maximum speed of 25 kmph.

Michael Keating, CEO, Scoot Networks, said, “The ease of use for short distances and affordability along with the flexibility to use anywhere without having to plug anything in has made the electric kick scooter popular in Europe and the US, and the same could be replicated in India, especially in the congested cities.”

Mahindra Group’s Chairman, Anand Mahindra and Scoot Network’s CEO Michael Keating met ministers in the

National Capital (New Delhi) to explore the possibility of bringing shared electric kick-scooters to the country. It will introduce one-person mobility solution in Indian cities that can be hired at cheap rates to navigate short distances across crowded streets.

Anand Mahindra, Executive Chairman, M&M, said, “We met with an incredibly warm response (from government officials), no cynicism whatsoever and willingness to work together to find the way. We believe that this vehicle is frankly the best last mile solution, the cleanest solution the world will see.”

Mahindra has been a pioneer of electric vehicle (EV) technology in the country. Driven by the mission to bring tomorrow’s movement, today, the Group has time and again partnered with enterprises globally to offer a wide range of electric vehicles that span personal and commercial segments.

Empowering Suppliers with Strategy Innovation

The Supplier Business Capability Building (SBCB) that started in 2011 saw 47 delegates participating in this year’s program held on 10th & 11th of October, 2018 in Nasik, Maharashtra. The program is a brainchild of Mahindra Leadership University’s Sourcing Academy along with Strategic Sourcing Unit (SSU) SBCB function, and is seen as a coveted spot for CEOs, COOs and senior management of top suppliers.

Over 19 companies participated in the Leadership Development Workshop last month with the fundamental aim of introducing changes through a balanced focus on people and profit. The learning sessions included systematic guidelines for building the HR strategy based on talent attraction, retention and performance.

Over the years, M&M’s strategic suppliers have reached the highest levels of efficiency through SBCB programs. Hemant Sikka, President-CPO Powerol & Spares Business and Dr. Prince Augustin, EVP-Group Human Capital & Leadership Development, along with their teams have designed the SBCB Program at Mahindra and Mahindra to identify solutions that address root cause issue, and help bring actual performance in closer alignment with the established goals.

With an increasingly dynamic marketplace, businesses are constantly evolving and often these innovations come from suppliers. Going forward, each supplier organisation will be working on their respective HR strategies, and will be supported by periodic visits by the SBCB team to render mentoring support.

The Thrill for Off-Road Enthusiasts Gets Even Better

Off-roading enthusiasts have another destination – a 150-acre training facility at Mangalore, launched recently by Mahindra Adventure. The first Academy at Igatpuri, on 28 acres, has trained over 1600 amateur drivers.
