Monte Carlo, Monaco, 16 May 2026: Mahindra Racing has taken its first FIA Formula E World Championship win since the 2021 London E-Prix, and its first of the Gen3 era, as Nyck de Vries delivered a composed drive to victory in Monaco, while team-mate Edoardo Mortara’s strong recovery drive was undone by a late puncture.

There were clear skies above the principality in Monaco, but the Mahindra Racing drivers endured contrasting fortunes in Qualifying, with Edoardo Mortara suffering a mechanical issue that couldn’t be remedied under parc ferme conditions. Nyck de Vries, on the other hand, progressed through to the Duels with the second-fastest time in Group 2.

Once through to the Duels stage, de Vries was on imperious form, besting António Félix da Costa by over a second in the Quarter Finals, then beat Mitch Evans by a quarter of a second in the Semi Finals.

When it came time to go head-to-head with Dan Ticktum in the Final, the pair were closely matched through the first and second sectors, but de Vries ultimately lost out in the final sector and had to settle for second place.

Mortara started from the opposite end of the grid in 19th, and both drivers held position in the opening few laps. On Lap 4, Mortara benefited from the Jake Dennis and Nick Cassidy collision to move up to 17th, while Nyck was still tucked in behind race leader Ticktum until the Safety Car was deployed.

As the race got back underway on Lap 6, Mortara was on the move, pushing forward to 15th while retaining his early energy advantage over the rest of the field. He benefited further still, when Pascal Wehrlein and Oliver Rowland dropped down the order with punctures, promoting him to 13th.

On Lap 15, de Vries pitted from second place, rejoining as PIT BOOST leader in 10th. Team-mate Mortara, meanwhile, had moved up to sixth while others were pitting. With Ticktum having rejoined behind de Vries after his stop, the Mahindra driver then activated Attack Mode on Lap 19 to extend the gap behind.

Mortara pitted the same lap, exiting the pits in 11th before using his own Attack Mode to move into the top ten. Further ahead, António Félix da Costa had emerged from the pits in the lead, but de Vries used his Attack Mode to good effect, seizing the lead into Tabac on Lap 20.

While one of the Mahindra Racing drivers surged into the lead, the other suffered a puncture. After a composed comeback drive, Mortara dropped all the way from 10th back down to 17th where he stayed until the chequered flag.

De Vries, on the other hand, held the lead for the remaining laps, fending off pressure from Mitch Evans and astutely managing a Full Course Yellow period to cross the line first and take Mahindra Racing’s first Formula E victory in the Gen3 era and the team’s first win since Alex Lynn in the 2021 London E-Prix.

The maximum 25-point haul sees de Vries jump to 11th in the Drivers’ Standings, with team-mate Mortara holding position in third. In the Teams’ Standings, Mahindra Racing also maintains its third-place spot, but significantly outscored its rivals, helping to close the gap to the top two teams.

Stay tuned for more Formula E action as the second part of the Monaco E-Prix double-header gets underway tomorrow (Sunday, 17 May).

Reflecting on an emotional first victory with Mahindra Racing, Nyck de Vries said: “Incredible. I’m very happy. Monaco is a special place. It’s my home. To do that together with Mahindra, and to give them the reward they deserve is just incredible. We’ve been very strong today. We’ve had a tough time until this point in the season, so it’s nice to bounce back and score maximum points for the team.

“We’ve had some challenges so far this season and we haven’t really been able to show what we’re capable of. Today it all came together, and it just felt like it was the perfect day and place to do it. Everyone was here. My friends, my family and everyone from the team so it’s nice to share this moment with them.”

After picking up a puncture late in the race, Edoardo Mortara commented “What happened in Qualifying was frustrating because there was nothing we could do. When you can’t fix something under parc ferme, you just have to accept your fate and adapt your mindset quickly for a different kind of race. It’s a shame to end the day the way we did, but these things happen in Monaco. So many other drivers were picking up punctures today.

“Until then, I thought it was a good comeback, and points might have even been possible, but tomorrow is another day and we have another chance to use the pace we have in the car this weekend.”

Celebrating Mahindra Racing’s first victory since the 2021 London E-Prix, Team Principal & CEO Frederic Bertrand added “This is a great achievement from the team. It was a mega drive from Nyck [de Vries], but also from Edoardo [Mortara] as well.

“What makes me the proudest, first of all, is that the team were able to deliver that win, but also that I’ve had so many messages from India saying they were so proud to hear the national anthem. It was a promise at the end of last season and the beginning of this season that we’d hear the anthem, so I’m happy it’s already happened and hoping we’ll hear it again soon.”
