Monte Carlo, Monaco, 17 May 2026: Mahindra Racing has secured another strong points haul from the second day of the Monaco double-header, with Edoardo Mortara finishing in the top five despite a penalty and Nyck de Vries recovering to the top ten from 15th on the grid.
It was another picturesque day at the principality for Round 10 of the season, and just like Round 9 the day before, there were contrasting fortunes for the Mahindra Racing drivers in Qualifying.
Both Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara were in Group A, and while Mortara progressed through to the duels in second place, de Vries managed the eighth-fastest time.
In the duels, Mortara bested championship leader Mitch Evans by two tenths in Quarter Final 1, then led through the opening sector of the Semi Final before settling for third on the grid.
Lining up in 15th and 3rd respectively, the Mahindra Racing drivers both held position through Turn 1. Heading into the Nouvelle chicane Mortara made contact with António Félix da Costa, emerging at the front of the field with a 10-second time penalty applied for the incident.
After a brief stint in the lead, Mortara spent the first half of the race trading positions in the top three, while de Vries played the long game, conserving energy further down the field. Shortly after retaking the lead from Mitch Evans, Mortara activated his first Attack Mode, dropping him behind Dan Ticktum. With the extra power at his disposal, he made his way back past Ticktum, slotting in behind da Costa, who headed the field.
Following a brief Full Course Yellow period, da Costa and Mortara traded positions as they both used their final Attack Mode. Further back, de Vries had made good use of his own Attack mode to move from 16th up to 10th.
Mortara fought back to the front on Lap 23 and crossed the line in second on the road. The 10-second time penalty applied at the end placed him fifth in the final classification, with de Vries climbing to ninth by the flag.
A double points score ensured Mahindra Racing retained its third-place position in the Teams’ Standings, while Mortara also held onto third in the Drivers’ Championship, and the two points scored by de Vries enabled him to move into the top ten.
Round 11 of the 2025/26 FIA Formula E World Championship season will take place in Sanya on the 20 June.
After an eventful second race in Monaco, Edoardo Mortara commented “We got a penalty for the contact with Antonio [Félix da Costa] spinning around while we were fighting with Jean-Eric Vergne. I apologise to Antonio for what happened, but Formula E is full of these moments where you’re side by side and if you push a few centimetres too much then you can cause chaos.
“Unfortunately, that cost us a podium here in Monaco. That’s on the negative side. On the positive side, we showed we had a good car. We were up there in Qualifying and in the race. That is positive heading into the next races. With the car I have this year, I feel like everything is possible.”
Reflecting on a strong recovery drive, Nyck de Vries said: “Overall, it’s been a positive weekend. Today was obviously a challenging day starting from 15th, but we managed to come home with a few points and I think that’s OK.
“We’ve been able to show the pace in the car really well here in Monaco, so I think that’s what we need to focus on heading into the remaining races this season.”
Commenting on the weekend as a whole, Team Principal & CEO Frederic Bertrand added “It’s a shame for Edoardo [Mortara] to miss out on the podium today because the pace was definitely there. Even so, he drove an excellent race and still managed to bring it home in fifth place.
“With Nyck [de Vries] taking our first victory in five years yesterday, and a double points finish today, I think we can be very satisfied with our weekend here in Monaco. There’s a lot for us to analyse ahead of the next round in Sanya, but I feel like we’re heading there in a strong position.”
