On April 19, Sneha Vachhaney put up an Instagram post for her initiative to provide home-cooked meals to anyone in need. Little did she know that in a matter of days, the post would become a movement.
Today, Sneha has managed to build a network of over 350 home chefs in Bengaluru alone, who send more than 2000 meals across the city, every day. The same is being replicated in the other cities through her website, www.covidmeals.in. Here, every day, more than 1000 people from across India and 15 more countries reach out to find food for their loved ones amid the restrictions due to the pandemic.
But beyond providing meals to COVID-19 patients and senior citizens, Sneha was able to extend a helping hand to the unseen COVID-19 warriors — crematorium workers and ambulance drivers too. The idea for this came from Saina Jayapal, a Bengaluru resident who was deeply perturbed after reading a media report about the working conditions and challenges faced by crematorium workers. Motivated to help these workers, she reached out to Sneha for help.
“While they are risking their lives to provide us with essential services, who is taking care of them? That is a question that pushed me to action. We would often send extra food to the crematorium workers, if required. But some of them have got back to us requesting to cut down portions so that the food is not wasted. It was quite heartwarming to see how considerate they were towards our efforts,” says Saina.
“The COVID-19 virus does not discriminate. It has affected every one of us, and so it is only by coming together in spirit that we can truly work towards overcoming it. When Saina got in touch, I was more than happy to extend our support to them. Every day, we manage lunch and dinner for over 60 workers across four crematoriums,” says Sneha.
From her apartment in Bellandur, she has been sending more than 150 meals per day, using delivery platforms like Dunzo, Swiggy and Gordian delivery services.
Mahindra salutes the challenger spirit of people like Sneha and Saina, who are teaching us the value of selfless service of those in need. #Rise #PeopleWhoRise #TogetherWeRise
