“I was doing well on paper, but I knew I was ready for more.”

In my previous role, I was delivering results and meeting expectations. But internally, I felt stuck. Growth felt limited and visibility was scarce. For someone driven by progress, that sense of plateau can feel heavier than failure.

So, I chose to speak up.

I shared how I felt with my manager, Puja Mehra. Not as a complaint, but with honesty. She had seen my work and the effort behind it. Instead of offering reassurance, she asked me to be patient.

Soon after, an Internal Job Posting opened for a Quality Lead role. It was unfamiliar territory, a new domain that required a different lens.

She didn’t just share the opportunity. She encouraged me to apply and step beyond the comfort of being a top performer in a familiar space.

I applied and was selected on merit.

The transition was not easy. In my earlier roles, I knew the terrain. Here, everything was new. Expectations were higher, stakeholders were different, and the learning curve was steep.

That is when leadership showed up again.

She stayed invested in my journey, guiding me through the transition and helping me understand the role beyond metrics, focusing on experience and impact. Gradually, uncertainty gave way to confidence.

And then came the breakthrough.

As a team, we helped the circle become the No. 1 telecom operator in NPS for consecutive quarters, a goal that had been pending for a long time.

Looking back, what helped me rise was not just ambition or opportunity. It was someone recognising my readiness before I fully saw it myself.

Sometimes growth does not begin with a promotion. It begins with someone saying, “You’re ready.”
