When Soumya’s father lost his job, there was no means of regular income for the family.
‘Papa tried looking for something lucrative but when he couldn’t, he invested his compensation money in Maa’s saree business.’ said Soumya.
Initially the business flourished. But after 3 years, with the boom in online retail, their business started suffering. Soon, they were drowning in debt. When Soumya saw her parents struggle, she let go of her dreams to do something in the creative field and pursued CA.
‘I knew it was the safer choice, I knew it would pay me well.’
And when in the final years of her education her mother had to sell off her jewelry to fund her classes. Soumya was determined to do right by her parents.
‘I studied hard and cleared the CA exam in my first attempt. Right after, I started working and earning well.’ said Soumya. Soon, she started contributing to the household to give her family a more stable life.
She’d save at least 60% of her monthly income. Once, she overheard her parents talk about selling their house to pay off the debts. She didn't have enough finances to help with their loan. But once they sold off the house, she started working towards buying them a new one.
‘Everyone deserves to have a place they can call their own, my parents did too.’
A year after, Soumya had saved enough to make a down payment for a new house; for the remaining amount, she took a loan. And after three years, she paid off the loan by herself.
‘I felt immense joy knowing I could finally do something for my parents!’
The memory of her parents moved into their new house shall forever be her happiest memory. Her parents were proud of their CA daughter! Soumya was happy knowing her parents’ tougher days were finally behind them. Her efforts had paid off.
‘I felt genuine happiness. The joy of providing something for others is truly wonderful. I felt at peace!’
