GlobalAutomobili Pininfarina to Preview PF0 Electric Hypercar at Pebble Beach, USA

Mahindra’s new electric hypercar company, Automobili Pininfarina, will mark another milestone in its journey, previewing the full-scale design concept of its PF0 electric hypercar to prospective customers at the world’s most prestigious automotive show, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California from August 22-26.

The production version of the PF0 will be launched at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, before going into limited production in 2020. Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra will attend the preview along with Automobili Pininfarina, prospective customers and other guests.

Michael Perschke, CEO, Automobili Pininfarina, said, “Numerous design icons from Pininfarina’s incredible history have won awards at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. I am excited to present a future Pininfarina classic to prospective owners in close proximity to this famous event. These special VIP previews mean that future PF0 owners, most of whom will undoubtedly own numerous modern and historic classics, have an opportunity right now to be part of the birth of the company and their hypercar.”

Among the iconic Pininfarina designs that have been showcased at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, was the Ferrari 512S Modulo concept that made its debut at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, a poetic 50 years before the new PF0 is due to reach production. The PF0 will be handcrafted in Cambiano, Italy by the Pininfarina SpA atelier in strictly limited numbers.

The PF0, currently in the final stages of design, has been inspired by famous Pininfarina cars such as the Cisitalia, Modulo and Sintesi, each having the necessary blend of beauty and technological innovation in perfect combination and for being ahead of their time when presented. Future PF0 owners – no more than 150 worldwide – will have the same approach and results, inside and out.

Automobili Pininfarina Design Director, Luca Borgogno, said, “Pininfarina’s design values of elegance and simplicity present us with a fantastic opportunity to stand out from the styling of most current sports cars and hypercars.”

The sketches of the PF-Zero's interior, showing a minimalist and driver-focused layout for the two-seater were released recently. Under the elegant beauty of this vehicle’s design language lurks immense power; thePF0 will be the most powerful Italian sports car ever made — reaching 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in under two seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 250 mph (400 km/h).

BusinessBuilding a Brighter Future for Rural India

Housing is one of the most basic of human needs. Mahindra Rural Housing Finance Limited (MRHFL) recognized this necessity and has been working towards providing convenient and low-cost housing loans to Indians living in rural areas since 2007.

This effort has gained momentum with an investment of Rs. 160 crores by the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group. MRHFL will use the proceeds to extend loans to people in remote villages and those living in the outskirts of semi-urban cities.

Ramesh Iyer, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director, Mahindra Finance, said, "Most of the housing finance in rural areas is for incremental construction or completion of homes and the lack of appropriately designed product options is a key challenge. We identified this need and built an innovative business model around it; there is great potential for growth in this segment. This association with IFC will help us capitalize on these opportunities, while making a huge social impact.”

Bridging the housing gap in India is a strategic priority for the IFC. This aligns with the World Bank Group’s twin goals of eliminating extreme poverty and increasing shared prosperity.

Explaining the intent behind the investment Arun Kumar Sharma, Chief Investment Officer, IFC said, “IFC's investment will send a positive signal to investors, increasing confidence and encouraging potential creditors to provide long-term debt to this sector. Home ownership helps improve living standards and the housing construction industry is a significant employment generator. Both are critical to IFC’s mission.”

Working towards the dream of a financially inclusive India, Mahindra Finance is the country’s largest non-banking financial company operating in rural and semi-urban India. Its customers include farmers, micro-entrepreneurs and salaried workers in the unorganized sector, who do not have documentary evidence of income and lack a proven credit history. This investment will not only help in improving the living standards of the rural population but will also help generate jobs in the housing construction industry.

Rise for GoodConnected cars at the Women Leaders Program Batch II – Really?

A connected car prototype, showcased through a VR demonstration for the judges, made it to the top at the Women Leaders Program Batch II convocation last week – Team MRV Chennai, take a bow! Not just this, 26 women from the Mahindra Group graduated from the Women Leaders Program, which is the second cohort launched in January 2017 by Mahindra Leadership University in association with SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai.

Ever wondered why do we need to design such courses, especially for women (we did too)? Organizations enabling women to take on leadership roles, is still a nascent concept in several Indian communities and families. The joy and pride of advancing in one’s career reached several people and hopefully aided a change in mindset. Reasons why we say ‘Ladki ke haath kamyabi tabhi ayegi, jab #LadkiHaathSeNikalJaayegi.” (Check out our latest digital film if you haven’t already!)

Aimed at reinforcing gender diversity across all management levels, the WLP has been designed for women in the age group of 30-40 years with 5-7 years’ work experience and two years in any Mahindra Group company. The program is designed with three modules focusing on business transformation, driven by purpose, inspired leadership and role modelling.

At the valedictory function, the participants were felicitated by the senior leadership team of Mahindra along with the Dean and Professors of SP Jain Institute of Management & Research. For their leadership projects, our women leaders also got an opportunity to share their learnings with Chairman Anand Mahindra and the senior leadership team.
