InnovationBoston Consulting Group lauds Mahindra’s new tech-driven start-ups

Mahindra & Mahindra was recently lauded by top global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for its new technology driven start-ups including SmartShift and Trringo.

In its report, BCG said that Mahindra & Mahindra is effectively using new digital technologies to transition its businesses on to new digital platforms, thus creating massive competitive advantage for itself.

Among these new platforms is SmartShift which connects transporters having small commercial vehicles with those needing to move cargo. Competitive pricing is helping to drive its popularity and growth.

Trringo is another first from the Mahindra Group for the renting of agricultural equipment. The farmer can use the app to hire tractors and equipment on a pay-per-use basis. The order is passed on to the nearest franchisee using location-based mapping.

Trringo is trying to address the disparity between the number of farmers and tractors, whereby it lets farmers rent their tractors to others. This platform not only works through a mobile app but also through the phone because in villages, they may not be able to use the app.

Mahindra & Mahindra was among a select group of global companies that was recognized by BCG for using digital technology to grow faster than its competitors.

Mahindra’s new TUV300 PLUS is designed to give its customers exactly what they want -- space and loads of it. This new nine-seater SUV also offers the latest tech and loads of features, all at a very competitive price tag, which is typical of Mahindra.

“The TUV300 PLUS will appeal to buyers looking for an SUV that compliments their aspirations and lifestyles,” says Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing -- Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

The new model offers hi-tech features including a 17.8 cm touchscreen Infotainment System with GPS navigation, Mahindra’s Blue Sense App, Micro Hybrid Technology, an ECO mode, and Brake Energy Regeneration Technology to name a few.

The TUV300 PLUS is also focused on safety with a toughened high-strength steel body fitted on a chassis derived from the Scorpio. It also has dual-airbags and ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution.

From its power packed mHAWK D120 engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission, to its interiors, which have been designed in Italy, the TUV300 PLUS fills the gap for a contemporary, powerful and flexible true-blue SUV in the under Rs.10-lakh price point in the Indian auto industry.

Mahatma Gandhi once said that the future of India lies in its villages. For the last 26 years, partnering with the unbanked and under-served communities has been the focus of Mahindra Finance, the country’s leading rural finance company.

This mission just got a big boost with a huge investment of INR 6.4 billion (USD100 million) from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the world’s largest finance company, and a partner of Mahindra & Mahindra for several decades.

According to Ramesh Iyer, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director, Mahindra Finance, “Our focus has been on enabling these customers with innovative financial solutions, tailor made to their evolving needs, fuelling entrepreneurial aspirations, promoting self-reliance and transforming lives.”

The IFC loan will enable Mahindra Finance to help small landholders; 60% of rural households depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Agriculture plays a strong role in poverty reduction. The IFC invests across the agribusiness supply chain — from farm to retail — to help boost production, increase liquidity, improve logistics, and expand access to credit for small farmers. The IFC also runs large advisory programs aimed at developing farmers’ knowledge and adoption of modern agricultural practices to help them raise productivity, improve incomes, and learn new skills.

“To make a significant impact in the agriculture sector, we need to provide patient capital and deliver climate-smart solutions. Mahindra Finance aims to develop agribusiness solutions focused on women,” said Arun Kumar Sharma, Chief Investment Officer, IFC.

InnovationTech Mahindra opens new R&D centers in USA and Germany to drive innovation

The secret to a perfect dish is to get the recipe right. That is exactly what Makers Lab, the R&D arm of Tech Mahindra does. To find the perfect recipe for success, they mix innovation with next-gen technology and come up with ground-breaking technological solutions.

Entellio, an immensely successful chatbot based HR platform used by Tech Mahindra internally, is the brainchild of Makers Lab. Entellio’s primary use is to replace a wide array of mobile customer service apps. It specializes in conversational speech to help search, converse and provide support. If that was not enough Entellio is now learning to understand human emotions and give a superlative customer experience.

With Machine Learning, IoT, Robotics, Micro Services, 5G network and Augmented Reality for retail clients, Makers Lab has boosted innovation within the company for years now.

From setting up the first lab at Pune in 2014 to recently expanding its global network to Germany and the US, Makers Lab has multiplied manifold. Committed to enhance citizen services and customer experiences worldwide, Tech Mahindra now has seven R&D centers globally and four centers pan India, providing consulting and business reengineering services.

The new Makers Lab in Plano, US will focus on advances to solve business problems by increasing efficiency and reducing time to market, thereby, enabling clients to stay ahead of the curve.

In Munich, Germany, the Makers Lab currently employs 120 people, and will provide 100 per cent on-site support to customers in their digital transformation journey.

“Through our research arm Makers Lab in the US and Germany, we intend to inspire our partner ecosystem. We believe it is our responsibility to invest in the local communities we operate in and initiatives like these help inspire and increase the employability of future technologists,” said Mr. C.P. Gurnani, CEO & MD, Tech Mahindra.
