Change The Only Constant

With Mahindra celebrating its 75th year in 2020, the group is poised for significant changes in its top management during the new year. Leading the way is Mr Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, who will take on the role of Non-Executive Chairman from April 1, 2020. This change is in line with the guidelines set by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), which mandates the appointment of a Non-Executive Chairman for the top 500 listed companies in India.

Mr. Mahindra leaves behind a rich legacy of strong corporate governance as he transitions into his new role. Under his leadership, the Mahindra Group diversified into real estate development and hospitality management. He also oversaw a number of significant acquisitions, including Satyam Computer Services, Ssangyong Motor Company, and Reva Electric.

In his video address to Mahindra Group employees last week, Mr. Mahindra said, “One of the reasons we have succeeded and thrived over the years was that we were good at introducing change in the right measure at the right time. Today, two decades later, the time has once again come to introduce change in the right measure and in the right way.”

Mr. Mahindra will serve as a mentor and sounding board to the Managing Director, Dr. Pawan Goenka in the areas of strategic planning, risk mitigation and external interface.

Top Management Succession Plans

The Mahindra Group recently announced succession plans for its senior leadership since several of its key leaders will be retiring over the next 15 months.

In this regard, over the past year, the Governance, Nomination & Remuneration Committee (GNRC) of the Board had undertaken a rigorous review of the top management succession, which has been sanctioned by the Board.

Dr. Pawan Goenka will be re-designated as Managing Director and CEO from 1st April 2020. While he retires on 1st April 2021, Dr. Anish Shah, will transition to becoming the Managing Director and CEO of the Group from 2nd April, 2021.

Mr. Rajesh Jejurikar, President, Farm Sector, will join the Mahindra and Mahindra board on 1st April 2020, as Executive Director (Auto and Farm Sector). He will report to Dr. Goenka during this transition period, and then report to Dr. Shah from 2nd April 2021.

Announcing these changes, Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra and Mahindra said “This plan reflects M&M’s depth of management talent and will ensure continuity in terms of culture, values, governance and operational effectiveness. In my new role, I see myself as the conscience keeper of the Mahindra Group, as the custodian of its values and the watchdog of the interests of its shareholders. Internal audit will continue to report to me. I will continue to exercise oversight through the Board”.

These changes have been designed to maintain continuity in change, while ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance.

Mining AI for Customer Delight

Inching towards another year end, Tech Mahindra, recently announced its partnership with Celonis, a New York and Munich based organisation, that builds process mining software. In a strategic move, this partnership will help in the digital transformation of the companies’ customers globally.

Through this alliance, a first-of-its kind Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution for Business Process Services (BPS) will be made available to customers, globally. Using Tech Mahindra’s expertise in being a leader in the digital transformation space, with a keen focus on delivering global business impact, this new venture will leverage Celonis’ process mining technology. A key advantage of this partnership is Celonis’ Intelligent Business Cloud that takes quick stock of customer processes, while continuously monitoring for improvement.

Key verticals such as, Communication, Media & Entertainment, Healthcare, Retail, Financial Services, Insurance, Travel etc., will be focused on via this joint go-to-market partnership.

Joy To The Off-Road World

The Mahindra ROXOR off-road vehicle is dashing in from the snow and parking itself right next to Santa’s Village at Great Lakes Crossing mall in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Great Lakes Crossing is the top shopping destination for tourists in the state of Michigan, attracting over 20 million shoppers every year. In a major awareness campaign by the Mahindra brand, this Christmas installation is an attempt to be seen by thousands over the extremely busy holiday shopping season.

Mahindra Automotive North America took full advantage of the season by decorating the display with snow, Christmas trees, lights and loaded up the ROXOR with presents. The installation of the side-by-side will be available for viewing until 1st January 2020, while patrons go about their holiday shopping.

With the season of giving upon us, the Mahindra team has also decked out a one-of-its-kind ROXOR, with Mattracks and Stakebox (perfect for hauling a Christmas tree), which will be auctioned off for charity. Until then, it’ll be seen dashing through the snow well into the New Year.

With over seven decades of expertise in the rugged, off-road vehicles assembly industry, the Mahindra Group entered the off-road scene in the Western Hemisphere with the Mahindra ROXOR.
