Mahindra Racing Wins Marrakesh ePrix

Mahindra Racing’s Jérôme d’Ambrosio claimed a dramatic victory in what will go down as one of the most manic races in Formula E history with a last-lap dash to victory in the Marrakesh ePrix.

D’Ambrosio had qualified for the second race in the tenth place, but made quick progress to run among the top three. The contest saw two BMWs colliding before Jérôme raced into the lead, keeping his cool at the front and taking the chequered flag as the victor.

Jérôme d'Ambrosio, driver, Mahindra Racing, said, “This is an amazing way to finish the second race. I’m so happy for the team; everyone has worked so hard and I’m proud to be a part of Mahindra Racing. It’s a good motivational tool for everyone and now we have to keep on working hard. I’m really thankful to everyone for giving me a chance. Today feels amazing!”

Adding another 25 points to the 15 he collected after his third-place finish in Saudi Arabia, Jérôme now leads the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, 12 points ahead of rival, da Costa and reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne, who fought back from an early spin to finish fifth. The title marks the Belgian driver’s first win since the Mexico

City E-Prix in 2016 and his first in Mahindra Racing colors.

Dilbagh Gill, Team Principal, Mahindra Racing, said, “I am absolutely thrilled with the win today. Marrakesh is definitely a special place for us and to win here two years in a row is something that I’m very proud of. The whole team had a fantastic day today and Jérôme drove a mature, brilliant race to give us this win. While we enjoy today, we now turn our attention to Santiago and the objective of having both cars finish well.”

The next Formula E race is the Santiago E-Prix in Chile on January 26, 2019.
