Speak Up!

‘He is a good friend and colleague, but lately, his body language started making me uncomfortable…’

What about you? Does your colleague insist on showing you suggestive videos that make you uneasy, or makes inappropriate gestures that are out of place? What do you do when it happens?

Most of us do not know what to do in such situations. Sometimes it is very simple, and can be resolved ‘then and there’ before it becomes ‘harassment’. There is a thin line, which when crossed, might turn from being overtly friendly to harassment, so Speak Up – Then & There.

In its endeavor to keep workplaces safe, transparent and friendly for people to work in, the Mahindra Group had a POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) policy in place even before it was made mandatory. Over the years, the policies have been updated to enhance the focus on both, physical and psychological safety at the workplace.

The robust policy and processes were again reviewed recently to ensure that any complaint of sexual harassment is dealt with appropriately, sensitively and expeditiously while maintaining discretion and confidentiality.

To spread awareness about POSH, the Mahindra Group is launching the campaign - Speak Up. To understand all the subtle nuances read the policy, e-module or e-handbook, start conversations on the issue, Speak Up and take a pledge to make our workplace the safest to work in.

The Mahindra Group strongly believes in creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Which is why they have a zero-tolerance policy about sexual harassment at the workplace. If you or any of your colleagues have faced sexual harassment in the office, you can count on them to take prompt and appropriate action, without any prejudice.

All you have to do is Speak Up.


Rise & Shine

In recognition and celebration of the core Mahindra values of accepting no limits, thinking innovatively, and driving positive change, proud employees from across the Group came together at the annual Mahindra Rise Awards 2019 held at The Nehru Centre, Mumbai, on 14 November.

Diversity, Synergy, Safety, Sustainability, Innovation, Veerta, The Mahinda Way and Esops were the themes for the evening, bound together by the common thread of ‘Rise’. From saving people from drowning in the river, fighting fire in apartment blocks to rescuing 200 senior citizens and differently-abled people, three Mahindra-ites who rightfully deserved the Mahindra Veerta Award were a source of inspiration to everyone.

Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, tweeted, “We celebrate achievements that are more about the size of our hearts than of our balance sheet. The Veerta award is the closest to MY heart. We recognize Bravehearts who put the lives of others ahead of their own. I salute them.”

The evening also saw wonderful performances by associates selected from the much-awaited ‘Mahindra Has Talent’ exercise. They regaled the audience with beatboxing, bhangra, old and new Bollywood melodies as well as Rabindra Sangeet.


Caring for Mother Earth

The Earth Care Awards organized by JSW and The Times of India Group recognizes, verifies, and promotes replicable initiatives and interventions focused on Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emission reduction, natural resource conservation, energy efficiency improvement, and the development and promotion of innovative eco-friendly alternatives across various sectors.

Reinforcing the Mahindra Group’s commitment towards fighting the causes of climate change, the ECA has recognized their initiatives and leadership in achieving carbon neutrality in its sector in India, to mitigate GHG emissions through carbon neutrality, energy efficiency improvements, use of renewable energy, water positivity, and zero waste to landfill projects that in turn contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Nasir Deshmukh, Head Manufacturing, MHEL & Igatpuri, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd. received the award from C.K. Mishra, Secretary, Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, who was the Chief Guest at the glittering awards ceremony held in New Delhi on November 13, 2019.

Speaking about the award, Rajan Wadhera, President – Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd., said, “The Earth Care Award is a clear validation of our commitment and progress in fighting against the causes of climate change. Today, all our Operations and Manufacturing plants are working towards achieving the vision of Carbon Neutrality. The emphasis of our work is towards doubling energy efficiency, increasing the use of renewable energy, and improving biodiversity.”


Shared Values

Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, believes that shared democratic values will increasingly bring Australia and India together as economic and security partners, amidst growing international concern over China’s behavior in the world.

India and Australia have worked toward being close strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific region and the relationship is remarkable both in terms of the tone and direction. The counties have shared values since both countries are pluralistic democracies and have similar strategic goals.

Mr Mahindra was speaking at an exclusive interaction with select Australian media that was visiting India on the invitation of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The group included renowned Australian print, TV and radio journalists who also visited other leading Indian companies and institutions to learn about the Australia-India relationship.

During their visit to Mahindra on November 14, the media also learnt about the Group including it’s Automotive and IT presence in Australia.

 

Senior leadership in Mahindra Automotive and Tech Mahindra gave an overview of their respective businesses, which were followed by discussions revolving around the Mahindra Group’s global approach to business, and their current thrust areas in Australia.

Weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi pulled India out of the 16-nation Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, Anand Mahindra while presenting the closing remarks in the session said that India would be better off doing bilateral trade deals because multilateral agreements have failed to deliver for India’s massive services sector.

Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, said, “We might be better off negotiating a separate deal with the US, separate with Australia, and separate with whoever else wants to talk to us. If you are a smaller country, you are probably much better off reflexively going into a multilateral to get some code of rights in there which allows you to punch beyond your weight. I think India brings tremendous negotiating power to a bilateral. So, we have to be very careful because most of these multilateral don’t recognize one of our people.”


Women in the Fast Lane

Celebrating her success, her passions, and #HerDrive! Actress Gul Panag and her cavalcade of XUV300s are setting the roads on fire at every #HerDrive event, and crushing stereotypes around women, one city at a time.

This unique women-outreach campaign launched by Mahindra with its XUV300 compact SUV kick-started with an 8-city tour starting with Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. It then moved to Chandigarh, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata, where women car-buyers were invited to Mahindra showrooms to celebrate the spirit of breaking gender stereotypes. This is the first of many initiatives that seek to encourage women to break stereotypes and empower them.

The event had an amazing line-up of interactive sessions with Gul Panag, who is a powerhouse in the automotive space. The event also witnessed stand-up acts by female comedians Sejal Bhat and Urooj Ashfaq, as well as an A-Cappella performance by the famous band Aflatunes.

Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “The #HerDrive campaign aims to amplify and acknowledge the evolving role of women who are pursuing unconventional paths in life. The movement also aims to change the perception and present the idea that women don’t belong behind the wheel. It is set to encourage them to break away from being stereotyped. We have seen a substantial increase in the number of SUV women buyers, especially with the launch of the XUV300. With the campaign, we want to express our gratitude to our customers and inspire more women to experience the brand.”

Aflatunes, the performing group of A-Cappella artists at the #HerDrive event remind us that “Our voice is the most powerful weapon we own”.
