By 2010, we began exploring opportunities that would accelerate our move towards being a globally admired brand. Sustainable mobility was a promising and uncharted avenue.
Our acquisition of Reva Electric Car Company opened a new chapter in our history. Founded by Chetan Maini, it was one of the global pioneers in the electric vehicle space. And the ‘REVA’ became India’s first electric car.
5Cs of the future of
MOBILITY
Clean
The future will see ‘clean’ permeate the entire automotive value chain – from the way products (and we don’t mean just vehicles) are manufactured, to they way they are used and retired.
From how ‘green’ the cars are to the quantum of recyclability of the vehicles – the cleaner, the better.
Cost-Effective
As EVs become increasingly mainstream, access is still a key driver. To reach out to an untapped market, it is imperative that technologies, however advanced, remain affordable.
With battery technology improving, EVs are expected to revolutionise transportation by bringing down running costs.
Convenient
For a world that is constantly on the fast track, convenience is key. Today, cars can be virtually experienced from the comforts of home - from comparing features and prices to servicing at the owner's preferred time.
The growing penetration of shared mobility is proof that convenience and transparency are becoming prime drivers for choice.
Clever
In the near future, cars will become increasingly 'clever'.
There is a rapid advance in the use of electronics to improve embedded intelligence in vehicles. It has ushered in dramatic improvements in driver assist systems, intelligent interaction with traffic systems and remote diagnostics. And at the peak of clever vehicles is – the driverless car.
Connected
Smartphones and the internet have dramatically altered the meaning of ‘connected’. Connectivity is penetrating the world of automobiles through dramatic improvements in telematics.
Owners can check their status of charge (SOC), control air conditioning and do more using an app. We believe that the cars of tomorrow will be connected to owners, other cars, and other car owners.
The e2o, launched in 2013, became a manifestation of our vision of the future of mobility, expressed by the 5C-framework. In 2016, we rolled out an enhanced version – the e2oPlus
By 2011, we were attempting to redefine ourselves once again by launching the XUV5OO – our first global SUV. It became a game changer for us and the industry.
In 2011, we entered the hyper-competitive world of motorsport – Moto3™ World Championship Series – with an eye to develop superior technology to bolster our two-wheeler portfolio.
