Continuing our series on the Covid Warriors of Mahindra, this week, we are focusing on our brave colleagues from Mahindra Defence Systems who ensured they personified our ethos of ‘Rise’ during the Covid-19 pandemic. Here are some of the stories of these bravehearts and how they left no stone unturned to help those battling the pandemic.
Helping alleviate the strain
The pandemic’s severity caused healthcare workers significant strain, as they were stretched very thin. Such unprecedented times demanded the contribution of civilians. Satish Desai was one such Covid Warrior who stepped in when help was needed the most. He volunteered to be trained as a health technician and was authorised to independently take swab tests of the people in his community in the Pimpri Chinchwad district of Pune. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation rewarded his efforts and later honoured him with the status of a ‘Covid Warrior’.
Stepping in to provide food and medical care to daily wage workers
Up north in Uttar Pradesh, Syed Zaigham Rizvi, a member of the Consulting department of Mahindra Defence Systems, also went the extra mile. Zaigham realised that around 250 families of daily wage workers who lived near his house had been severely affected by the lockdown. He went out of his way to provide food and medical support to the families.
Apart from this, he went door to door to distribute sanitisers and masks, including to those who were Covid positive. Zaigham arranged for two ambulances in the area for a period of three months to help those who were unwell. Keeping in mind the severity of the situation, he also set up two phone numbers to ensure that people across the locality could reach him anytime.
Close to 250 underprivileged families could rest easy during the pandemic due to Zaigham’s efforts.
