Susten powers a sustainable future

On its 10th anniversary, Mahindra Susten stands on the cusp of a bright future in the renewable energy sector

Mahindra Susten, over the past decade, has successfully established itself as one of the leading solar PV EPC companies. With projects in almost every continent from Africa to Australia, it has come a long way from its humble beginnings with a 5MW and 2MW project in Jodhpur and Lucknow respectively. Recently, it successfully commissioned a 405MW project in Saudi Arabia.

Along the way, it has grown to employ over 900 employees, with 14 per cent women. The company is proud to be recognised among the Top 25 ‘India’s Best Workplaces in Manufacturing’ and the Top 100 ‘Companies for Women in India’ by the globally respected ‘Great Place To Work’ Institute.

A promising outlook

Basant Jain, MD & CEO, Mahindra Susten, says that the company has the potential to become a global player in renewable energy. He says, “What is required is to stay relevant and contemporary, to keep adopting new technologies, and to stay ahead of the curve. Presently, there is plenty of focus on technology and innovation, whether it is a hybrid project or a project on any strata or terrain – we call it Terraform.”

Mr Jain sees a massive role for a system integrator in the future. He elaborates, “This capability seems simple, on the face of it, but it's not. It involves a good deal of engineering, and with hybrid storage coming in, the complexities will only increase. I see Mahindra Susten being poised to take advantage of this trend.”

Collateral benefits

A positive for Mahindra Susten is its linkage to sister company Mahindra TEQO.To derive true economic value out of power plants consistently, they need to be maintained efficiently. Mahindra TEQO offers high-quality operations and maintenance, asset management, and analytics services. The company currently manages over 4.5GW of solar assets.

Mahindra Susten works closely to improve the lives of many communities located in the proximity of its power project sites and plants. Mr Jain explains the philosophy, “We have been extremely focused on the social well-being of the community around us while operating as a commercial enterprise.”

The renewable energy company has received recognition from its peers and the industry on various fronts – from technology to innovation, from project development to services, from safety to diversity. As the company celebrates its 10th anniversary, it is more determined than ever to push forward on its journey to create a future that can be sustainably shared with everyone.
