We can choose to let our problems define our destiny or we can choose to rise above every challenge and perceive them as steps towards greatness. For 21-year-old Shivani Gahlawat, that meant setting out on a defining upskilling journey and having faith in herself, above all else.
From Sonipat, Haryana, living with a family of five and an unemployed father, her journey to a successful Customer Service Executive is phenomenal. Since childhood, Shivani's circumstances weren’t favourable for holistic growth. Her journey to the 12th grade was a constant reminder of having to give up on further education due to poor financial conditions. She was also battling tuberculosis for the second time, one of the lowest points of her life. She suffered a loss of appetite due to the heavy medication and all that stress building up.
“You don’t have to be a perfectionist. You just have to be optimistic.” Shivani’s words resounded as she went on explaining how she never stopped studying, while she was struggling with TB. Her will found a way when her mother took up a menial job to fund her graduation.
But the anxiety of getting a job upon graduating, especially due to COVID-19 was clouding her mind. She questioned if she had what it takes to secure a job.
After graduating in Computer Applications, destiny led her to Mahindra Pride School. Shivani believes that was a step in the right direction. MPS played a pivotal role in recognising her skills and building her confidence. Her hard-working mindset, quick learning abilities, confidence, and hunger to do more were some of the skills admired by the trainers. Shivani gleefully talks about the support showered upon her.
She interviewed at Teleperformance and to her disbelief, secured a well-paying job that exceeded her expectations. Her mother wept tears of joy. It was Shivani’s way of thanking her family, her mother for trusting her. But getting a job isn’t where Shivani intends to stop. Already recognised twice as the best weekly performer, Shivani’s sights are set on becoming team leader. With that same unshaken faith, she keeps moving forward.
Mahindra admires Shivani’s faith in herself & will to rise over challenges with optimism.
