Mahindra and Ford Strengthen Strategic Alliance

Strengthening their ongoing collaboration, Mahindra Group has signed an agreement with Ford Motor Company to co-develop a mid-size Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). This SUV will have a common Mahindra product platform and powertrain to help drive engineering, and commercial efficiencies.

Dr Pawan Kumar Goenka, Managing Director, M&M Ltd., said, “Having identified several areas for joint development, both companies will continue to work together and develop products using common product platforms. This will reduce product development costs and drive economies of scale for both companies.”

This new agreement reinforces the steady progress made since the announcement of the strategic alliance in September 2017, followed by an announcement on powertrain sharing and connected car solutions in

October 2018. They are also working together to jointy development a telematics control unit.

Jim Farley, President of Ford New Businesses, Technology & Strategy, said, “Ford’s technological leadership combined with Mahindra’s successful operating model and product prowess will surely help us deliver a vehicle that will meet the expectations of customers in India as well as in other emerging markets.”

Teams from both the companies will continue to collaborate on all areas of mutual interest including electrification, distribution and product development.

The coalition will leverage Ford’s global reach and Mahindra’s scale, and successful operating model in India.

Going Green on Blue

Mahindra Odyssea range of power boats from Mahindra Marine adds a flagship new generation Solar-Electric boat in its portfolio with such first boat successfully commissioned at Tamil Nadu Forest Department's Project Tiger reserve on Manimuthar Dam in Tirunelveli district.

The 26-seater Solar-Electric Boat, is 11.8 m long and 4 m wide mono hull boat. She is powered by a keel cooled electric motor with shaft propulsion system propelled by a lithium-ion battery bank delivering over 5 hours of continuous cruising at 6 knot speed. Mahindra Odyssea comes equipped with a solar paneled roof that can generate 3.8 KW of peak power to help augment battery charging capacity beyond normal overnight shore power connected charging of batteries.

The solar-electric boat from Mahindra ties together innovation and sustainability, further to naval

architecture skills acquired over 10 years’ existence for building new generation light weight, low maintenance Fibre Reinforced Plastics (FRP) boats under the brand name of Mahindra Odyssea. Mahindra Marine enjoys category leadership in a niche infrastructure segment for India serving recreational, Defence and commercial customers. Marine business dovetails very well in Group’s Full-line mobility solution charter straddling across all media. Marine business offers immense synergy opportunity to be derived from specialist business verticals of the Group, suitably adapted for marine applications.

Putting Employees First

Mahindra and Mahindra ranked 13th on the list of ‘Best Companies to Work for 2019’ by Business Today.

'Best Companies to Work For' survey reveals that there hasn't been a seismic shift in what people want from their workplace over the past five years. Some perks, seen as privileges in the past, are now considered standard. For instance, flexi timings, pay for performance, maternity and paternity leave, among others. Employees now want a transparent

compensation structure, leadership mentoring, learning programs and an entrepreneurial job that adds to their skill set.

With the expectations of the employees growing on two parameters. They want an organization that offers room for innovation and creativity and is able to engage and communicate effectively with them.

Accelerating Blockchain Technology

Tech Mahindra has joined hands with the logistics and IT arm of South Korean tech conglomerate Samsung, to offer their Blockchain platform - Nexledger, in the Indian and global markets.

Nexledger is a Blockchain platform that was launched in 2017, and built with the aim of assisting enterprise entities who are looking for a cost-efficient method of managing digital financial transactions and data exchange. Nexledger is flexible and scalable with the ability to deliver a wide spectrum of customizable application-services based on enterprise specific requirements. Apart from pursuing potential business opportunities revolving around Blockchain technology, Tech Mahindra will also contribute to improve Nexledger capabilities by participating in the development process of the platform.

Both the partners consider Blockchain a strong focus area in 2019 and will leverage each other’s strength in various geographies to make the collaboration successful.

Mahindra Holidays has won the ‘Most Popular Resort Chain’ award at the Times Travel Awards 2019 the top honor conferred on Club Mahindra acknowledges it's popularity, especially with regard to immersive travel experiences for families in resorts across India and the globe.

The Times Travel Award is a recognition of companies, brands and people who are transforming travel into memorable experiences. There were around 150 nominations across 18 categories, out of which 9 were editor choice awards. The selection process consisted of a thorough analysis of Club Mahindra’s products and services, judged by an expert-panel appointed by Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd (Times Group). The event was attended by a host of dignitaries including Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog and 15 Consul Generals from various countries.
