A Journey of Leadership, Recovery and Support | She Is on the Rise Season 5
I have always believed that growth must be earned. For me, it came through discipline, sincerity and a relentless focus on delivering value. I showed up consistently, approached every assignment with a can-do mindset, and trusted that effort would open doors.
Equally important was my willingness to step out of my comfort zone. Every few years I chose reinvention through new roles, domains, geographies and leaders. I never allowed the status quo to define my path.
One such step took me to a new country with my child, while my husband stayed back in India because of his own career commitments. I stepped into a high visibility leadership role leading a complex program. The work was challenging and deeply rewarding.
Then life took an unexpected turn.
A serious health crisis forced me to step away from the pace that had defined my career. Being in a new country with my child, while facing uncertainty about my health and work, was overwhelming.
That was when my manager, T.S. Narayanan, stepped in with extraordinary empathy.
He reassured me that my place in the organization was secure and that a role would be waiting when I was ready. He ensured I had the time and space to focus on treatment, bringing both relief and dignity during a difficult phase.
As I began to recover, I asked if there was a way to contribute while managing treatment. The organization and our client responded with understanding and flexibility. With my parents stepping in to support my child, I slowly rebuilt my rhythm.
What sustained me most was the trust placed in me. Narayanan and my client gave me the autonomy to contribute in a customer facing role with full confidence in my ability to deliver.
It meant I could remain visible.
It meant I could continue contributing with confidence.
And most importantly, it meant I never stopped belonging, even in my most fragile moment.
